Privacy Policy

1. What we collect

• Alert signups. The email address you enter, and the lake name and state if you add them. We also record the page the form was on and the time you signed up.
• Messages. What you send to hello@iceline.app, and your email address.
• Reports you submit (when reporting opens). Thickness, surface type, notes, photos and the location you choose or share. Reports are public, so do not put private information in them.
• Device and usage data. Standard server logs such as IP address, browser type, pages requested and time. Your theme choice (dark or light) is stored on your device.
• Precise location only if you allow it in your browser, and only to center the map or place a report.

2. How we use it

• To send the alerts you asked for, such as when a lake locks up.
• To publish ice and trail conditions, and to detect false or unsafe reports.
• To run, secure and improve the service, and to answer your messages.
• To meet legal duties.

3. Who we share it with

We do not sell your personal information and we do not rent or sell email lists. We share data with service providers that work for us under their own privacy terms: our hosting provider (Netlify), which also stores form submissions; our database, file storage and email delivery providers; analytics tools; and payment processors if paid plans launch. We may disclose information if the law requires it or to protect safety.

4. Cookies and analytics

The holding page sets no advertising cookies. When we add analytics we will use a privacy focused tool and update this page. Maps load tiles from OpenFreeMap, which receives your IP address as part of the request.

5. How long we keep it

We keep alert signups until you unsubscribe or ask us to delete them. Published reports and ice history are kept as part of the public record of conditions, though we remove your name or photo on request. Server logs are kept for a limited time.

6. Your choices

• Unsubscribe from any email with the link at the bottom, or write to hello@iceline.app.
• Ask us to see, correct or delete your personal information by writing to hello@iceline.app.
• If you live in California, Minnesota or another state with a privacy law, you may have added rights to access, delete, correct and opt out of sale or targeted advertising. We do not sell or share personal information for advertising. Write to us to use your rights, and we will not treat you worse for it.

7. Security

We use reasonable safeguards, such as encrypted connections and limited access. No system is perfectly secure, so we cannot promise absolute security.

8. Children

Iceline is not for children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect information from them. If you think a child gave us information, write to hello@iceline.app and we will delete it.

9. Changes

We will post updates here and change the effective date. For material changes we will also email signups.
